Your RPM Program Is Only as Good As the Data
Part I: The Importance of Using Clinically Validated Home Blood Pressure Monitors
In today’s rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) is transforming how providers manage chronic conditions like hypertension. But the success of any RPM program hinges on one critical factor: the accuracy of patient-generated health data. And that accuracy starts with the devices—especially home blood pressure monitors.
What Is a Clinically Validated Blood Pressure Monitor?
A clinically validated blood pressure (BP) monitor is one that has passed rigorous testing protocols—such as the ANSI/AAMI/ISO 81060-2 standard—to ensure its accuracy. These tests are conducted by independent organizations, and only devices that meet the highest standards are listed on the Validated Device List (VDL) maintained by ValidateBP.org.
Beware of misleading claims: Some manufacturers may label their devices as “clinically validated” without meeting current standards. Always refer to the VDL to confirm a device’s validation status.
